Riding Discipline (or lack of): MTB Cross country, Enduro and crits. Off road fixed gear. Commuter Cup (retired).
Favourite Riding spot: Whistler, Canada. Although I've told myself I can't go back until I've explored a number of other spots around the world.
Short and long term goals: Very slowly getting faster. I'm in no hurry to be on top so as long as I'm improving I'm happy.
Also, get to ride as many of the top MTB trails around the world as possible.
Favourite Bike: Hopefully I'll have a new favourite soon but right now my trusty Kona Kula. It has suffered with me for over five years of racing and subjected to trails around the world built for much bigger bikes.
Years Racing: Five and a half.
When did you begin cycling and why?: I was a late starter at the age of nine but since then it's been my primary transport as I've never owned a car. I did get a bike with a motor for longer trips though.
Have you suffered any serious injuries cycling? Describe what and how:
Snapped tibia and fibula, hit by car.
Two snapped ribs, somersault over bars into tree.
Fractured transverse process, barrell roll onto handlebars.
Gouged forearm, snapped handlebar in rock garden.
Forearm impaled on tree trunk, mistook fallen tree for bush.
Other than those I've been pretty lucky, just the usual scrapes and grazes.
Describe your greatest cycling achievement to date: Technically I'm the World MTB Fixie Champion from the 2006 Single Speed Worlds in Sweden, but I only had to beat three other guys stupid enough to compete.
Describe your worst race or cycling experience: 24 hour racing. Nothing is more miserable than having to go out at 3am in the wet/cold and still try and smash out a fast lap. Having said that, it seems the most unpleasant experiences make the most amusing anecdotes.
Describe your favourite race: The more singletrack the better. Paul Fitzgerald makes some of the best racetrack in the state, the Gravity 12 hour alway makes me punch above my weight as it gets better the faster you go.
