Brendan Bailey
Favourite Riding spot: Melbourne CBD. Though there will always be a special place in my heart for the Harrison Street Velodrome in the People's Republic of Brunswick.
Short and long term goals: To meet nice people, befriend them, then defeat them.
Favourite Bike: One with sweet stickers.
Years Racing: too many, or not enough, depending on who you talk to.
When did you begin cycling and why? I'd always used a bike for commuting and general getting around, but only started getting really into it in 2006, when I realized that more and more of my friends were riding track bikes on the street. One go and I was hooked.
Have you suffered any serious injuries cycling? Broke my arm in some stupid sprints around the block after an alleycat late one night. Some other cyclist pulled out in front of me and I went over the handlebars. Rode myself to the hospital, and rode myself home - much to the chagrin of the nurses.
Describe your greatest cycling achievement to date: The Cannonball Run. Sydney to Melbourne along the coast in six days - 1100 kilometres - on a singlespeed, unsupported. Winning races is also nice, and sometimes I get to do that too. Taking out the Brunswick Winter Track Omnium this year was definitely worth a gold star.
Describe your worst race or cycling experience: Being stuck under the front wheel of a late-model BMW on Sydney Road wasn't great. I had to bang on the side panel until the driver reversed off me.
Describe your favourite race: For the Halloween Alleycat last year I dressed up as a rap star and carted a huge boom box in my messenger bag. Smashing it down Smith Street while the Wu-Tang Clan blasted from my back was a pretty memorable experience.
